The Public Service devison aims to provide you with the skills, experince and knowlegde that will enable you to develop a career in either the Fire Service, Ambulance, Police or Armed Forces. The personal skills that you will aquire teamed with the physical endurance of our courses, will set you up perfectly for the career you want.
Our courses aim to help you develop the personal skills and qualities that the public services require. They will enable you to improve on skills such as communication and an understanding of your different personal attributes. This will assist your application to your chosen public service. Our courses also include a range of day trips, careers talks, visiting speakers and residential trips.
The Public Service provision offers a range of full-time courses that continue to attract large numbers of students at all ability levels, from North Kent and surrounding areas. Our courses include NCFE Level 1 and 2 in Public Services and BTEC Level 2 and Level 3 Diploma qualifications, for employment in the Uniformed Services.
Our aim to is help you to progress into the industry, whether it’s the Fire Service, Ambulance, Police or Armed Forces. We also offer a qualification in Higher Education, which is an ideal progression for students who wish to continue their education with us, on the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Public Services.
What will I learn?
How the different public services operate and the types of skills that you will need to suceed. You’ll learn about the different factors that can affect our public services, such as war and recession.
What qualification will I gain?
We offer the Level 1 and 2 NCFE (National Certificate for Entry) into the Public Services, Level 2 BTEC Diploma and Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services. For explanations of our qualifications, please see our Qualification Explained page.
What progression options will I have?
You can progress from a Level 1 NCFE to Level 2 and 3. You can also progress on to our Higher National Diploma in Public Services, which is offered at the College and on completion can be topped-up at a university to a full Degree. Alternatively, you can go straight into employment within the public sevices.
What costs are involved?
You will need to purchase a uniform, but full cost can be found on the individual course descriptions. Full-time Further Education courses are free for students aged 16-18, you may have to pay some or all of your fees if you are aged 19 plus, but please see our Student Finance page for further information. If you are enrolling on a Higher Education course, fees are applicable.
Entry requirements?
For the Level 1 NCFE you must be working towards GCSE’s. For the Level 2 you need to have achieved four A* to D grades at GCSE, including Maths and English.
