Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy

About

Studying Hairdressing, Barbering or Beauty Therapy with us, allows you to develop your skills and experience in our brand new purpose-built Hair and Beauty salon, Inspirations. Our lecturers are highly qualified Hairdressers and Beauty Therapists, with a wealth of industry knowledge and experience, including salon ownership.

You will be taught everything from basic to advanced Hairdressing, Barbering and Beauty Therapy. We believe that your skills and knowledge will advance notably by learning in a practical environment. You will gain your practical experience through working with real clients, in the College’s Inspirations Hair and Beauty Salon, which contain industry standard facilities.

Although our courses are based on practical experience, there is still an element of theory work that will need to be completed, in order to meet the standards of the qualification.

Inspirations Hair and Beauty Salons are available at both the Dartford and Gravesend campuses and are open to the general public, on most week days and selected evenings. Inspirations offer a comprehensive range of Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy treatments, which are provided by our students as part of their training.

What will I learn?

Courses are based mostly on practical experience gained in either the Hairdressing or Beauty Salon, but do involve essential elements of theory.

What qualification will I gain?

We offer Levels 1, 2 and 3 VRQ certificate in Hairdressing and a Level 2 and 3 VRQ, NVQ in Barbering. Beauty Therapy offers Levels 1, 2 and 3 NVQ’s and VRQ’s; the awarding body is City and Guilds. For explanations of our qualifications, please see our Qualification Explained page.

What progression options will I have?

With Hair or Beauty you can progress through the Levels, onto a Level 3 course. It is also possible to continue your qualification as an Apprentice, should you find employment (please see our Apprenticeships section for more information). You can find work in areas such as working in salons, spas, mobile hairdressing, cruise ships, theatre or television. If you’re on a Hairdressing course, you can also progress on to Barbering or a Beauty Course.
